ANPC asked TAROM for ways to compensate consumers for canceled flights

In the context of the legal incidents of the cancellation of a significant number of flights operated by the TAROM company, on 8.07.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX, leadership authoritiesATIII Nationale for Con Protectionsumators (ANPC) a invited, at his headquarters, on 9.07.2024 representatives this company, to discuss the concrete ways in which passengers affected by these cancellations will be compensated.

From the discussion it turned out that, following the events of 8.07.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX, TAROM will compensate all passengers who purchased tickets directly from the company and who submit a request for compensation reimbursement, according to the law.

According to European Regulation 261/2004, the compensations to which consumers are entitled, following the cancellation of flights, are:

a) €250 for all flights of 1 kilometers or less;

 

b) EUR 400 for all intra-Community flights over 1 kilometers and for all flights between 500 and 1 kilometers;

 

c)
d) EUR 600 for all flights not covered by letter (a) or (b).

To determine the distance, the last destination where the passenger is to arrive after the scheduled time due to denied boarding or flight cancellation is taken into account.

To resolve the created situation, ANPC recommendsconsumerstheir:

- the passengers must keep and make available the vouchers/invoices by which they purchased accommodation, transport, minimum necessities, during the period in which the flight was canceled and until reboot
- to receive compensation, following the cancellation of the races on 8.07.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX, consumers who purchased tickets directly from TAROM, must address Company by e-mail, in which to present the plane ticket proving that was a passenger on the canceled flight, availability of vouchers/invoices by which they purchased accommodation, transport, minimum necessities, during the period when the flight was cancelled, until rerouting, as well as the account number to which the financial compensation can be paid
- passengers who purchased tickets through other companies must contact them by e-mail, and if they are not offered a solution, they can file a complaint on the ANPC website, www.anpc.ro, for Romanian companies or on the website of the European Consumer Center, site www.eccromania.ro, for companies based in the European Union, whose services are free for consumers.

Careful! In the case of complaints submitted to private companies regarding the claim for compensation, these services are for a fee.

We remind you that, following discussions with the TAROM company, in May 2024, its representatives informed ANPC of the measures they took to prevent problems that may arise in the 2024 summer season, namely:

in the event of a flight cancellation, of his delay of more than 3 hours upon arrival, as well as in the overbooking situation, the passengers have the opportunity to receive financial compensation in the form of an electronic voucher that can be used to purchase TAROM tickets, within one year from the date of issue.
