The rights of passengers in the event of denied boarding, downgrading, cancellation or prolonged delay of flights pursuant to Regulation (EC) no. 261/2004
EU legislation protects air passengers who are denied boarding or whose flight is canceled or delayed. The EU also provides passengers with rights in the event of loss, destruction or damage to luggage. People with reduced mobility benefit from specific rights and protection under European passenger rights legislation
EU form that can be used by passengers to submit a complaint to the airline or to the competent national body with the application of regulation 261/2004 on the establishment of common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and cancellation or prolonged flight delays.
The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) was designated by GD 1061/2013 as the national body responsible for ensuring the application of the provisions of Regulation (EU) no. 1177/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 November 2010 on the rights of passengers traveling by sea and inland waterways.
The regulation applies to passengers traveling using passenger transport services that depart from or arrive at a European Union (EU) port, as well as cruises whose port of embarkation is in the EU. The Regulation establishes the rules regarding the rights of passengers traveling by sea and inland waterways and aims at non-discrimination of passengers in terms of transport conditions offered by transport operators, non-discrimination and assistance for disabled people and people with reduced mobility, passenger rights in cases of cancellation or delay, the minimum information that must be provided to passengers, the resolution of complaints and the general rules for ensuring the application of the Regulation.
